A café drawn by hand

Budapest has plenty of good cafés. It has exactly one you can walk into and feel like you have been inked onto a page.

The Story Behind Beloved

Have you ever dreamed of stepping into a comic? At Beloved, that dream becomes reality. From the moment you walk through the door, the world shifts – colors fade, outlines take over, and suddenly you’re inside a living comic book.

But 2D Beloved is more than just a visual experience. It’s a cozy corner for lovers of Asian desserts, snacks, Korean shaved ice, freshly brewed boba tea, and matcha. Beloved was created with a dream brought to life: to create a space born from the heart—a spot to slow down, smile, and savor the moment in a world drawn entirely in black and white.

A space where everyone feels welcome. A café to enjoy, to share, and to remember.

Welcome to Beloved,
where imagination tastes sweet.

Where the name comes from

Two dimensions, on purpose

The idea is borrowed from Japanese manga, where the whole world is built out of black line on white paper. We took that literally.

Every surface in the café is flattened and outlined by hand: cornices that are only a drawing of a cornice, a chandelier that is a few confident strokes on the ceiling, picture frames with nothing inside them, the Liberty Bridge sketched across the back wall. The furniture is white with black edges so that chairs and tables read as illustrations too.

Nothing in the room is a print or a sticker. It is drawn, line by line, which is why no two corners are quite identical — and why people keep finding details on their third visit that they missed on their first.

The other half of the job

A room this loud needs food that holds up

The interior gets people through the door once. The kitchen is what brings them back.

The soufflé method

The batter is whipped to a meringue, portioned into rings and cooked slowly under a lid so it rises rather than browns. It cannot be made ahead and it cannot be rushed — a stack ordered early collapses. That is the whole reason for the wait.

Matcha from Kyoto

Ceremonial grade, made from hand-picked leaves of the very first spring harvest — the sweetest, least bitter picking of the year. Eleven drinks are built on it, from a plain classic latte to strawberry, pistachio and earl grey sea salt.

Bingsu, properly

Not crushed ice with syrup. Milk is frozen and shaved into ribbons so fine they melt on contact, then layered with condensed milk, real fruit purée, sago pearls and cream. Bowls for dine-in, cups to take away.

Good to know

Short answers to the things people ask at the door.

Lotus Biscoff soufflé pancakes at 2D Café Beloved, topped with milk foam, biscoff sauce, crumbs and a Lotus biscuit, on a patterned plate
Do I need to book?
No. We are walk-ins only and we do not take reservations at either location. If there is a queue, the team will give you a pager so you are free to wait comfortably.
How long is the wait for pancakes?
Soufflé pancakes are cooked from scratch once you order, so they take a while. The team will tell you the current wait before you pay, so you always know what you are committing to.
When is it quietest?
Weekday mornings, roughly between 10:00 and 12:00. If you want photographs of the room without other people in them, that is your window. Weekend afternoons are the busiest.
Can I take things away?
Yes. All drinks are available to take away, and bingsu is served in cups for takeaway rather than the dine-in bowls. Soufflé pancakes are best eaten in the café — they lose their height within minutes.
Is there anything for people avoiding dairy?
Drinks can be made with oat, soy, coconut or lactose-free milk for a small supplement. The desserts are all dairy-based. Everything is prepared in one kitchen, so please tell the team about allergies when you order.
Which location should I go to?
Both serve the same menu. Szent István körút 4 sits by Jászai Mari tér at the Pest end of Margaret Bridge; Király utca 33 is in the middle of the Jewish Quarter. Pick whichever you are already near.

In their words

Reviews left on Google by guests at 2D Café Beloved, exactly as they were written.

[…] Biztos még fogok jönni ide még barátokkal.”
